FAQs

The Veganist FAQ's

We are sure that as the Fraser Valley’s first 100% vegan boutique and grocery that there are going to be questions. We do our best to answer them here.

  • Is everything vegan?

Yes! Everything we carry instore and online is 100% vegan! We do the research and hard work so you don’t have to.

  • What does it mean to be vegan?

This question can be answered many different ways, depending on who you ask. In the easiest and simplest sense it means to live in a way that does not harm other animals/species. So this means us vegans do not consume, purchase or use animal products or bi-products. This includes, but is not limited to: Meat, Seafood, Dairy or other Animal Lactation’s, Eggs, Honey, Leather, Whey, Bone, Fur, Skin, Wool etc.

  • Where do you ship/deliver to?

We ship everywhere in Canada (excluding Québec) and we offer local next day delivery to everyone located between Chilliwack to Coquitlam. Our Agassiz, Hope and Cultus customers we will be doing weekly delivery on Friday’s.

  • May I enter the store with a coffee? Containing dairy?

Yes, you may. Though we’d prefer everyone to be vegan - we know that our customers come from many different ways of life, and may be on different points in their plant-based journey - or even have other reasons for shopping with us.

US! We call ourselves a vegan grocery boutique because we are a grocery store, just vegan and when you first walk into our store, you walk into the boutique portion of the store. Our boutique section carries vegan apparel, bags, skincare, shoes, soaps and so much more! We also thought that this was a better description for our store rather than a health food store- as we’re simply a grocery store that only carries vegan products; not everything we carry is “healthy”.

  • Can I bring my dog into your store?

Yes! We love seeing your well dogs in store! Our only request is that they are on a leash and well-behaved.

  • Do you carry gluten-free products?

Yes we do! If you’re shopping our online store you can simply enter gluten-free and all the gluten free items will come up! If you’re shopping in-store we have yellow tags to easily identify gluten-free products. Please note that we are still working on ensuring everything has the appropriate tags/signs so there will be items that are gluten-free that are not pulled in your search online and in store.

Marry Me Tofu Recipe

For the Tofu:

For the Marry Me Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced or pressed
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 cup vegan culinary cream (we use Belsoy)
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (reduce or omit if you don't like spice)
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • ⅓ cup sun-dried tomatoes drained if in oil and chopped
  • 1 handful fresh basil leaves roughly chopped
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan (optional)

Instructions

  • Add the tofu, flour, salt, and pepper to a medium bowl and gently toss to evenly coat the tofu in the flour mixture.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. When hot, add the tofu pieces discarding any extra flour. Fry the tofu for a few minutes per side until golden brown all over. Remove the tofu from the pan and set aside on a plate.
  • Return the pan to the stove and reduce the heat to medium. Add the garlic and cook for about 60 seconds until it just starts to brown. Pour in the vegetable broth and use your spoon to scrape any bits off the bottom of the pan while stirring. Add the vegan culinary cream, nutritional yeast, crushed red pepper flakes, oregano, thyme, and salt. Mix well, bring to a simmer and cook for a few minutes.
  • Return to the tofu to the pan with the sauce and stir in the sun-dried tomatoes. Heat through and cook a few minutes more.
  • Garnish with the basil and serve hot over pasta, rice, quinoa, mashed potatoes or with crusty bread. (We prefer this over pasta)
