Vegan Community Resources & Initiatives

Here at The Veganist we work hard not only to provide a larger assortment of vegan and plant-based products to the Fraser Valley while keeping prices affordable, but we also support numerous animal forward causes and Sanctuaries. Some of these organizations and movements you may be aware that we support, but others we’ve supported in the background. We also get requests to share active petitions to help the animal liberation movement but we never had a place to list all that we support/ want to help.

Please note, that this page is not an all inclusive list of movements and organizations and will be updated sporadicly

The Plant Based Treaty

The adoption of a Plant Based Treaty as a companion to the UNFCCC/Paris Agreement will put food systems at the heart of combating the climate crisis. The Treaty aims to halt the widespread degradation of critical ecosystems caused by animal agriculture, to promote a shift to more healthy, sustainable plant-based diets and to actively reverse damage done to planetary functions, ecosystem services and biodiversity.

Ban Fur Farms BC

A community organization that advocates for the immediate ban of all fur farms in British Columbia, regardless of species.  They founders argue for the banning due to animal rights, the effects on the environment and the overall health of humans in BC- let’s prevent the next pandemic together.

We sell BFFBC merch in-store and online with proceeds going towards their campaigns. You can check out these items here.

Petition to End Animal Participation in Rodeos

As vegans who support animal liberation; we advocate for the ending of all animal exploitation, not just for those suffering in factory farming. One of the current campaigns from the Vancouver Humane Society is asking the public to contact their city or municipal councils to speak up for the animals.

You can learn more by clicking on the link below, VHS has supplied much information about why this is something we do not support and they have made it easy to contact your council!

Petition Against Ag-Gag Laws (Bill C-275)

Animal Justice is currently lobbying against the House of Commons (Canada) to prevent Bill C-275 from becoming law. The bill will lose protections for whistleblowers and make animal activisim essentially illegal in the current methods. Bills like these would have had a negative effect on cases like Excelsior 4 while also reducing protections for the animals- as it keeps everything that’s behind closed doors stay there.
